(1965), The Curse (1987), Colour from the Dark (2008), The Colour Out of Space ( Die Farbe) (2010) and Color Out of Space (2019). First appearing in the September 1927 edition of Hugo Gernsback's science fiction magazine Amazing Stories, "The Colour Out of Space" became one of Lovecraft's most popular works, and remained his personal favorite of his short stories. His best work - including some sixty or so short stories - was published from 1923 onwards in the pulp magazine Weird Tales. He was self-educated and lived in his birthplace all his life, working as a freelance writer, journalist, and ghostwriter. Seeking to create a truly alien life form, he drew inspiration from numerous fiction and nonfiction sources. Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1890. Lovecraft began writing "The Colour Out of Space" immediately after finishing his previous short novel, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, and in the midst of final revision on his horror fiction essay " Supernatural Horror in Literature".
